Doha (Introductory Couplets)

श्रीगुरु चरन सरोज रज निज मनु मुकुरु सुधारि।
बरनउँ रघुबर बिमल जसु जो दायकु फल चारि॥
Shri Guru Charan Saroj Raj Nij Manu Mukuru Sudhari,
Barnau Raghubar Bimal Jasu Jo Dayaku Phal Chari.
With the dust of the Guru’s lotus feet, I cleanse the mirror of my mind, and sing the pure glory of Lord Rama, which grants the four fruits of life (Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha).

बुद्धिहीन तनु जानिके सुमिरौ पवनकुमार।
बल बुद्धि बिद्या देहु मोहि हरहु कलेस बिकार॥
Buddhihin Tanu Janike Sumirau Pavan-Kumar,
Bal Buddhi Bidya Dehu Mohi Harahu Kalesh Bikar.
Knowing myself to be ignorant, I meditate on you, O Hanuman, son of the wind god. Grant me strength, wisdom, and knowledge, and remove my afflictions and impurities.

Chaupai (Main Verses)

जय हनुमान ज्ञान गुन सागर।
जय कपीस तिहुँ लोक उजागर॥
Jai Hanuman Gyan Gun Sagar,
Jai Kapis Tihun Lok Ujagar.
Victory to Hanuman, the ocean of wisdom and virtues. Victory to the monkey lord who illuminates the three worlds.

राम दूत अतुलित बल धामा।
अंजनि पुत्र पवनसुत नामा॥
Ram Dut Atulit Bal Dhama,
Anjani Putra Pavan Sut Nama.
You are the messenger of Rama, the abode of incomparable strength, the son of Anjani, known as the son of the wind god.

महावीर बिक्रम बजरंगी।
कुमति निवार सुमति के संगी॥
Mahavir Bikram Bajrangi,
Kumati Nivar Sumati Ke Sangi.
O mighty hero, brave Bajrangi (one with a thunderbolt-like body), you dispel evil thoughts and accompany those with good intellect.

कंचन बरन बिराज सुबेसा।
कानन कुंडल कुंचित केसा॥
Kanchan Baran Biraj Subesa,
Kanan Kundal Kunchit Kesa.
Your golden hue shines, adorned with beautiful attire, with earrings in your ears and curly hair.

हाथ बज्र औ ध्वजा बिराजै।
काँधे मूँज जनेऊ साजै॥
Hath Bajra Au Dhwaja Biraje,
Kandhe Munj Janeu Saje.
You hold a thunderbolt in one hand and a flag in the other; a sacred thread made of Munj grass adorns your shoulder.

शंकर सुवन केसरी नंदन।
तेज प्रताप महा जग वंदन॥
Shankar Suvan Kesari Nandan,
Tej Pratap Maha Jag Bandan.
You are the incarnation of Shiva, the delight of Kesari, and your great glory and valor are revered by the world.

बिद्यावान गुनी अति चातुर।
राम काज करिबे को आतुर॥
Bidyavan Guni Ati Chatur,
Ram Kaj Karibe Ko Aatur.
You are learned, virtuous, and extremely wise, always eager to perform tasks for Lord Rama.

प्रभु चरित्र सुनिबे को रसिया।
राम लखन सीता मन बसिया॥
Prabhu Charitra Sunibe Ko Rasiya,
Ram Lakhan Sita Man Basiya.
You delight in listening to the glories of Lord Rama, and Rama, Lakshman, and Sita reside in your heart.

सूक्ष्म रूप धरि सियहिं दिखावा।
बिकट रूप धरि लंक जरावा॥
Sukshma Rup Dhari Siyahin Dikhava,
Bikat Rup Dhari Lank Jarava.
You took a subtle form to appear before Sita, and in a fierce form, you burned the city of Lanka.

भीम रूप धरि असुर संहारे।
रामचंद्र के काज संवारे॥
Bhim Rup Dhari Asur Sanhare,
Ramchandra Ke Kaj Sanware.
In a gigantic form, you destroyed demons and accomplished the tasks of Lord Rama.

लाय सजीवन लखन जियाये।
श्री रघुबीर हरषि उर लाये॥
Lay Sanjivan Lakhan Jiyaye,
Shri Raghubir Harashi Ur Laye.
You brought the Sanjivani herb and revived Lakshman, filling Lord Rama with joy as he embraced you.

रघुपति कीन्ही बहुत बड़ाई।
तुम मम प्रिय भरतहि सम भाई॥
Raghupati Kinhi Bahut Badai,
Tum Mam Priya Bharatahi Sam Bhai.
Lord Rama praised you greatly, saying, “You are as dear to me as my brother Bharat.”

सहस बदन तुम्हरो जस गावैं।
अस कहि श्रीपति कंठ लगावैं॥
Sahas Badan Tumharo Jas Gavain,
As Kahi Shripati Kanth Lagavain.
Thousands of mouths sing your glory, said Lord Rama, as he embraced you.

सनकादिक ब्रह्मादि मुनीसा।
नारद सारद सहित अहीसा॥
Sanakadik Brahmadi Munisa,
Narad Sarad Sahit Ahisa.
Sages like Sanaka, Brahma, Narada, Saraswati, and the serpent king Shesha sing your praises.

जम कुबेर दिगपाल जहाँ ते।
कबि कोबिद कहि सके कहाँ ते॥
Jam Kuber Digpal Jahan Te,
Kabi Kobid Kahi Sake Kahan Te.
Yama, Kubera, and the guardians of the directions, as well as poets and scholars, cannot fully describe your glory.

तुम उपकार सुग्रीवहिं कीन्हा।
राम मिलाय राजपद दीन्हा॥
Tum Upkar Sugrivahi Kinha,
Ram Milay Rajpad Dinha.
You rendered a great service to Sugriva by introducing him to Rama, who then gave him the kingdom.

तुम्हरो मंत्र बिभीषण माना।
लंकेश्वर भए सब जग जाना॥
Tumharo Mantra Bibhishan Mana,
Lankeshwar Bhaye Sab Jag Jana.
Vibhishana heeded your advice, and the whole world knows he became the king of Lanka.

जुग सहस्र जोजन पर भानू।
लील्यो ताहि मधुर फल जानू॥
Jug Sahasra Jojan Par Bhanu,
Lilyo Tahi Madhur Phal Janu.
You leaped thousands of yojanas to the sun, thinking it to be a sweet fruit.

प्रभु मुद्रिका मेलि मुख माहीं।
जलधि लाँघि गये अचरज नाहीं॥
Prabhu Mudrika Meli Mukh Mahin,
Jaladhi Langhi Gaye Acharaj Nahin.
Carrying Lord Rama’s ring in your mouth, you crossed the ocean—no wonder in that.

दुर्गम काज जगत के जेते।
सुगम अनुग्रह तुम्हरे तेते॥
Durgam Kaj Jagat Ke Jete,
Sugam Anugrah Tumhare Tete.
The most difficult tasks in the world become easy with your grace.

राम दुआरे तुम रखवारे।
होत न आज्ञा बिनु पैसारे॥
Ram Duare Tum Rakhware,
Hot Na Aagya Binu Paisare.
You are the gatekeeper at Rama’s door; no one can enter without your permission.

सब सुख लहै तुम्हारी सरना।
तुम रक्षक काहू को डरना॥
Sab Sukh Lahai Tumhari Sarana,
Tum Rakshak Kahu Ko Darna.
All happiness is attained by taking refuge in you; with you as the protector, there is no need to fear.

आपन तेज सम्हारो आपै।
तीनों लोक हाँक तें काँपै॥
Aapan Tej Samharo Aapai,
Tino Lok Hank Te Kanpai.
You alone can control your immense power; the three worlds tremble at your roar.

भूत पिसाच निकट नहिं आवै।
महाबीर जब नाम सुनावै॥
Bhut Pisach Nikat Nahin Aavai,
Mahabir Jab Nam Sunavai.
Ghosts and evil spirits dare not come near when the name of the great hero Hanuman is uttered.

नासै रोग हरै सब पीरा।
जपत निरंतर हनुमत बीरा॥
Nasai Rog Harai Sab Peera,
Japat Nirantar Hanumat Beera.
All diseases and pains are eradicated by continuously chanting the name of the heroic Hanuman.

संकट तें हनुमान छुड़ावै।
मन क्रम बचन ध्यान जो लावै॥
Sankat Te Hanuman Chudavai,
Man Kram Bachan Dhyan Jo Lavai.
Hanuman frees from troubles those who meditate on him with thought, deed, and word.

सब पर राम तपस्वी राजा।
तिन के काज सकल तुम साजा॥
Sab Par Ram Tapaswi Raja,
Tin Ke Kaj Sakal Tum Saja.
Lord Rama, the ascetic king, reigns over all, and you accomplished all his tasks.

और मनोरथ जो कोई लावै।
सोइ अमित जीवन फल पावै॥
Aur Manorath Jo Koi Lavai,
Soi Amit Jivan Phal Pavai.
Whoever brings their desires to you receives the infinite fruits of life.

चारों जुग परताप तुम्हारा।
है परसिद्ध जगत उजियारा॥
Charon Jug Partap Tumhara,
Hai Parasiddh Jagat Ujiyara.
Your glory shines through the four ages, and your fame illuminates the world.

साधु संत के तुम रखवारे।
असुर निकंदन राम दुलारे॥
Sadhu Sant Ke Tum Rakhware,
Asur Nikandan Ram Dulare.
You are the protector of saints and sages, the destroyer of demons, and the beloved of Rama.

अष्ट सिद्धि नौ निधि के दाता।
अस बर दीन जानकी माता॥
Ashta Siddhi Nau Nidhi Ke Data,
As Bar Deen Janki Mata.
You grant the eight siddhis (spiritual powers) and nine nidhis (treasures), a boon given to you by Mother Sita.

राम रसायन तुम्हरे पासा।
सदा रहो रघुपति के दासा॥
Ram Rasayan Tumhare Pasa,
Sada Raho Raghupati Ke Dasa.
You hold the elixir of devotion to Rama and always remain his devoted servant.

तुम्हरे भजन राम को पावै।
जनम जनम के दुख बिसरावै॥
Tumhare Bhajan Ram Ko Pavai,
Janam Janam Ke Dukh Bisaravai.
Through your devotion, one attains Rama and forgets the sorrows of many births.

अंत काल रघुबीर पुर जाई।
जहाँ जन्म हरि भक्त कहाई॥
Anta Kaal Raghubir Pur Jai,
Jahan Janma Hari Bhakt Kahai.
At the end of life, one reaches Rama’s abode and is reborn as a devotee of Hari (Vishnu).

और देवता चित्त न धरई।
हनुमत सेइ सर्व सुख करई॥
Aur Devta Chitt Na Dharai,
Hanumat Sei Sarva Sukh Karai.
No need to focus on other deities; serving Hanuman brings all happiness.

संकट कटै मिटै सब पीरा।
जो सुमिरै हनुमत बलबीरा॥
Sankat Katai Mitai Sab Peera,
Jo Sumirai Hanumat Balbeera.
Troubles vanish and all pains disappear for those who remember the mighty Hanuman.

जय जय जय हनुमान गोसाईं।
कृपा करहु गुरुदेव की नाईं॥
Jai Jai Jai Hanuman Gosain,
Kripa Karahu Gurudev Ki Nain.
Victory, victory, victory to Lord Hanuman! Bestow your grace upon me like a Guru.

जो सत बार पाठ कर कोई।
छूटहि बंदि महा सुख होई॥
Jo Sat Bar Path Kar Koi,
Chhutahi Bandi Maha Sukh Hoi.
Whoever recites this Chalisa a hundred times is freed from bondage and attains great happiness.

जो यह पढ़ै हनुमान चालीसा।
होय सिद्धि साखी गौरीसा॥
Jo Yah Padhai Hanuman Chalisa,
Hoy Siddhi Sakhi Gaurisa.
Whoever reads this Hanuman Chalisa attains siddhi (spiritual success), with Lord Shiva as the witness.

तुलसीदास सदा हरि चेरा।
कीजै नाथ हृदय मंह डेरा॥
Tulsidas Sada Hari Chera,
Kijai Nath Hriday Mah Dera.
Tulsidas, the eternal servant of Hari, requests, “O Lord, reside in my heart.”

Doha (Concluding Couplet)

पवन तनय संकट हरन मंगल मूरति रूप।
राम लखन सीता सहित हृदय बसहु सुर भूप॥
Pavan Tanay Sankat Haran Mangal Murati Rup,
Ram Lakhan Sita Sahit Hriday Basahu Sur Bhup.
O son of the wind, remover of troubles, embodiment of auspiciousness, reside in my heart along with Rama, Lakshman, and Sita, O king of the gods.
